Boarding: 7 builds, 14 seats, 2 Orbit slots free

Build w/ Strangers

The idea gets you a seat. It doesn’t let you keep it.

A Signal is a problem you bring the crew, with proof that people already want it. The crew builds the product and you get a reserved seat on it. In Orbit you have the same three endings as everyone else: land, orbit again or part ways.

The crew builds at most 2 Signals each quarter. The queue is private. Only the crew sees it.

From Signal to Orbit

  1. Send a Signal

Tell the crew the problem, who has it and why you. The form is at the bottom of this page.

  2. Show proof of pull

At least 10 people on a waitlist, or at least 5 customer conversations. The crew reviews a Signal after you show it.

  3. The crew picks

The crew builds at most 2 Signals each quarter. The queue is private. Only the crew sees it.

  4. The crew builds the version that works

Shiyu builds it in house. You help with user interviews, copy and tests.

  5. The build is listed

It goes on the board with a Signal badge with your name. Your seat shows as Reserved. The other seats open to strangers.

  6. Orbit

30 days, one goal, three endings: land, orbit again, part ways. The rules are the same for you.

What the sender keeps

Two separate things. The spark share pays for the idea. Seat equity pays for the work, on the same clock as every seat.

Spark share

1%

A fixed slice of the company for the idea. It comes out of the 10% pool and vests fully when the build lands. An Orbit ending does not change it.

If the build lands
You keep it.
If you part ways
You keep the credit, and the spark share if the build lands without you.

Seat equity

Your seat

The same slice every human seat gets on the build. Granted at Landing, unvested, and vested over 2 years with a 3-month cliff. Split numbers are on the deal.

If the build lands
You keep it, and it vests like any seat.
If you part ways
Nothing to give back: seat equity is granted at Landing. The seat opens to strangers.

Only an Orbit ending can take the reserved seat. A stranger cannot take it before Orbit starts. After Orbit, the seat follows the normal rules on Residency.

Edge cases

  • The product never works

Nobody is cut. The crew shelves the build, and you get the first right to take the idea back. The code stays with Build w/ Strangers.

  • Two people send the same idea

The first sender with proof of pull gets the build.

  • A Signal is not confidential

There is no NDA. The crew may already be building something similar, and may build it later.

Send a Signal

Short is fine. A Signal is not confidential and there is no NDA.

Your seat on the build

The idea earns a reserved seat. Pick the one you would do. Insider fits people who live the problem.

Proof of pull

At least 10 people on a waitlist, or at least 5 customer conversations.
